Where We Are In Place And Time
Central Idea: There are various perspectives when different cultures encounter one another.
What is exploration? Exploration is traveling and finding stuff. For this unit we were focusing on exploration and what it was like back then. We were also focusing about what happened when different culture meet and what they thought when they meet.
In class we were researching European Explorer and so we did a wonder and knowledge wall. (The things I wrote was before we researched about them.) What I wonder about European Explorer is if they found anything that we use already, like what they found on there journey. What I know about European Explorers are that they go out on a quest to find something or to travel somewhere. That is what I wondered and knew about European Explorers before we researched about them.
In class we also researched just one explorer. Me and my table researched about Jane Goodall. She was a woman who explorer the world of chimpanzees and saved the species she also wrote a book about it and started a institute. Here is a picture of our European explorer.

European Explores
From back when people fought for land, traded supplies and food, and there were European Explorers. European Explorers are very important part of our history. There are many European explorer who traveled many different places, different tools needed to travel, and there has to be reasons to explorer or else they would not go, they also found many thing.
First, let’s talk about who the explorers are. I have a very small group of European explorers, but they are very important. Christopher Columbus was a very important explorer because he was the leader of the group who found the new land, they traveled very far to get to the new land so that must have affected families and the people on the boat. They started their voyage on august 3,1492. The other explorer is Prince Henry who left for his voyage 1394 - 1460. There is one last explorer and his name is Vasco Da Gama, he had a goal while he was on his voyage which was to expand his knowledge on his journey about the new land. I do have some questions like Did they ever run out of supplies? or How many people do you need to form a crew?
Next, let’s talk about what some of the reasons to explore are. One most common reason to explore was land because land = power, but land can take many days to find, leading to deaths, and sometimes people are already on that land which can also lead to death and a battle. Some other reasons are National pride, to be famous, better life, money, food and water. Finding and getting all of those reasons to explore can lead to war, death and loss of more supplies.. That is all that I know about the reasons to explorer.
Now, I’m going to tell you about what they might need to travel. They would need a map, weapon in case of battle, boat, journal to keep track of everything, extra clothes, lots of food, water, they would also need a astrobe to find the north star. That is all that I know about what they needed.
My fourth topic is about what the European explorers found. We sometimes even use what they found today. Some of the stuff they found is animals ,plants ,food, weapons, land, trade routes , and gold, some of the things they found made a really big impact on the world. Those things are called invasive species. Those take over things, which can kill the thing they are taking over. That is all I know about what they found.
I hope you learned a lot about European Explorers and, who they are, what the needed, what they found, and history. Remember European explorer are important and without them we would not be so fortunate.

In class we read a book called ¨Pedro's Journal¨ Which is basically about the journal to the new land with Christopher .C. We made some reflections too, i am going to share the reflections with you.
Pedro's Journal reflections
Native Americans perspective when meeting the European Explores.
They thought the explorers were gods. I know this because the book stated "They thought we were angles from god." and " they walked to us slowly but without fear, their hands were out."
Perspective of Native Americans after fully meeting the explores.
The natives were distrustful. I know this because the book stated " there was distrust in their eyes."
Perspective of Columbus of the natives.
I think he thought they were rich and knew where to find such riches. I know this because the book stated " Columbus said " did you see that? Those pieces of gold had Chinese writing on it" China was where they thought had all the riches.
Pedro's perspective of Columbus and journey.
I think Pedro liked the journey and had learned many things. I also think that he thinks Columbus is mean and crazy. I think these things because the book stated " before the captain came up he let me stir." also " Columbus said " let me offer you a promise, stay with me one more night, and if I do not take you to land you may cut off my head.
